As we near the end of Black History Month, this year has been more reflective than celebratory. Traditionally a time for celebration, reflection, and tribute, recent challenges across various sectors have cast a shadow over the month’s usual festivities, affecting many communities dedicated to celebrating Black achievement and excellence.
The nonprofit industry has not been spared from these disruptions, as many organizations that relied on federal funding find themselves in limbo, carefully navigating a new paradigm in which their mission, work, and communities may be under threat.
Despite these challenges, it is imperative to maintain hope and joy. Hope is the antidote to despair, and adversity can be a teacher, rather than an adversary.
In the spirit of continuous learning, even in the face of adversity, ZIM Consulting is committed to celebrating the tremendous achievements and contributions of Black Americans, not only in Denver and Colorado, but throughout the US. In Denver, ZIM is excited to highlight some of the exciting upcoming work and events its African American-led and serving clients are involved in:
On March 15th, The African Chamber of Commerce Colorado is hosting a Financial Wellness Session, equipping individuals and businesses with essential financial skills to effectively manage personal and business finances. This is a key opportunity to learn more about financial literacy, empowerment, and stability. Click here to learn more and sign up!
On March 8th, Sims Fayola Foundation is hosting its 4th Annual Mardi Gras Gala at the McNichols Civic Center Building, celebrating the vibrant holiday and raising funds for young men and boys of color in the Denver metro area. Click here to purchase tickets and reserve your spot!
Though Black History Month is only a month, the contributions and experiences of African Americans cannot be confined to one month. To that end, ZIM Consulting is excited to highlight the African American Timeline created by Rich Lewis of RTL Foundation. Featuring the historic achievements and milestones of African Americans from pre-1850 to the present day, the African American Timeline is an extraordinary tribute to the triumphs, injustices, adversities, and achievements experienced by African Americans throughout US history, reminding us that history is a living thing. In times of change, there is always value in coming together as a community. ZIM Consulting invites you to explore African American history and engage with African American-led and serving organizations year-round. This moment reminds us of Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous statement that “the moral arc of the universe is long, but it bends toward justice.” If that is true, it is only because those of us with the ability to do so must make it so.
